Champion Machinery launches new corrugated board production process to reduce paper waste and increase customer savings

Taipei, Taiwan, December 5, 2014 / PRNewswire / – These days, corrugated boxes can be used in a wide variety of applications. In fact, corrugated cardboard packaging can be used for almost any consumer goods and lifestyle product, including electrical appliances, computers, toys, gifts, food, and even large items like furniture. , equipment, machinery, etc.

In addition, many companies now print their logos, product names and even product specifications on the outside of the corrugated boxes they use, and if the outer surface of the box deteriorates or is damaged or deformed, this carefully crafted work of art may lose its appeal and important information may be obscured or lost.

Making a smooth wavy surface looks simple. However, if you want to create 1,000, 10,000, or even a million wavy surfaces with even smoothness, this is definitely not an easy thing to do. When the paper is heated or cooled, the degree of humidity in the air can cause irregularities in the cardboard and even cause deterioration in quality, which can not only cause the corrugated surface to change, but also cause a deterioration in the quality. loss of functionality. of the box protecting the contents inside.

For the past forty years, Taiwanese company Champion Machinery has specialized in just one thing: to make every wavy surface even smoother. Champion Machinery was selected in 2011 Taiwan Number 1 Brand. Its corrugated board machine production line system has more than 40 international patents. Champion Machinery also has more than 60 international customers, including Sony, MSI, Zespri, Starbucks (Taiwan) and Double A, all of which use corrugated products made by their machines.

In recent years, however, in addition to its commitment to quality, Champion Machinery has also continued to carefully consider how best to help customers save money. Having undertaken a series of processes to optimize its equipment, Champion Machinery has now launched three major new transformations of its machines and systems that will bring increased ease and savings to its customers.

Transformation 1: low temperature, low pressure

Champion Machinery was able to reduce the temperature of its corrugated box production process by 20 degrees Celsius (170 C to 150 C). In addition, the steam pressure now required is only 66% of the original (from 2.5 tonnes of steam / 10,000 m² to 1.65 tonnes of steam / 10,000 m²). These dramatic transformations mean that energy consumption has been drastically reduced. At the same time, carbon dioxide emissions have been reduced by 25%.

Transformation 2: a simplified process

A traditional machine requires around 12 people to operate, but Champion Machinery’s new machine system only requires eight people. In addition, each production line is now capable of producing 30 meters of corrugated product per minute, which means that the production capacity has increased by 1.3 times.

Third transformation: quality improvement

With traditional machines that require higher temperature and pressure, warping of the corrugated surface and broken crease lines often occur during the winter. In addition, during the rainy season, traditional production lines face challenges due to the extra moisture absorbed by the cardboard, which weakens the edges of the cardboard. Normally, the density of the raw paper (GSM) should be increased by about 3 percent of the total weight of the original paper to compensate for this weakness. However, with Champion Machinery’s low temperature and low pressure system, annoying problems like these can be avoided.

In addition, in traditional production lines, the original paper roll typically shrinks about 0.8% in length and width due to temperature changes during the converting process. With Champion Machinery’s new production process, there is less paper width waste, which means a huge reduction in paper usage. In fact, this new machine can mean average savings of up to 5.8 percent on raw paper usage.

In this era of “micro-profits”, every gram of paper, every unit of electricity and every second of human labor saved represents an increase in profits that can ensure the survival of a business. This is exactly why Champion Machinery likes to say emphatically but modestly: “Nothing is too small. From zero to a million, every little part counts!
